Hinius: Unreal Photography

On Flickr today I stumbled across two photographs that can only be defined as artistic masterpieces, enjoy this surreal beauty! if you hadn’t guessed it these are created through glass reflections. I have seen a lot of photography before now that has been created by using reflections, but nothing quite as creative as this appears to be!

Art photography= Meaningless junk, check  out Hinius’s work before you come to that conclusion. To see more of Hinius’s work simply click on the below photographs.

LJ.- A Staggering Portrayal of Life on the streets

I stumbled across this incredible portrait of a Homeless man on Flickr, this really is a powerful and memorable photograph. I have found in recent times, that sometimes ‘photographing the homeless’ has become a fashionable thing to do! I personally find this a bit insulting, as it appears some people are taking photographs of the homeless purely because it’s an easy and cheap way to make ‘ART’ as they see it.

This image is refreshing, as it is authentic and genuine. His piercing eyes are filled with soul and emotion, the connection with camera and subject is incredibly strong. The fact he is using ‘cardboard’ instead of paper for joints that he smokes reveals the hardship the man is suffering on a daily basis. Truly moving!

B.Image: More Street Portraits from Asia

Another opportunity today for me to include some more of street photographer B.Image’s portraits, his work really has a touch of brilliance to it. He ask’s a random member of the public to pose for him on the spur of the moment, the result is a professional looking portrait photograph. Enjoy these stunning shots from the streets of Asia!

The Fashion Photography of the future? Is Street Fashion

Due to the prolific rise of the internet and people buying less magazines, budgets for fashion shoots have become less and less. This brings up an interesting question ‘What is the future of fashion photography?’, it appears perhaps the future of the finely constructed fashion magazine photoshoot may be potentially under threat. But with change, comes opportunity and fashion photography will continue to exist in one form or another. People will continue to purchase fashion/clothing and of course imagery plays a huge part in exhibiting/advertising changing fashion trends to the public, designers are likely to continue using photography or videos to advertise their new fashion lines.

‘How will fashion photography exist in the future?’ appears to be the real question, this at the moment is an open question. But the following article published last year in the Irish Times, gives a very interesting insight in to how the future of fashion photography may turn out. It appear’s that some of the new up and coming fashion photographers (i.e. Garance Dore) are defining a new style of photography, Street Fashion photography. This appears to be a more reality based style of fashion photography, much of todays fashion imagery is heavily photoshopped and expensively constructed. It will be interesting to see if this new budget conscious and reality based style of photography becomes the new norm in the world of fashion as editorial budgets continue to be cut back.

Personally I hope that the current form of glossy mag fashion photography continues to exist as I feel this form of photography has a special place, but it will be interesting to see how this creative and new style of Street fashion photography progresses as I believe it could be equally effective. Check out the link below-

Michelangelo di Battista: Striking Jessica Alba Photoshoot for Vogue Italia

Fashion photographer Michelangelo di Battista is a new photography discovery I have made today, I have not seen any of his work previously but I will be making sure I keep track of his work from this point onwards. This outstanding photoshoot of the beautiful Hollywood actress Jessica Alba for Vogue Italy really highlights his photographic talents. The understated colours, Alba’s natural poses, the retrospective setting and most importantly the atmospheric lighting all mix together to create some truly memorable imagery.

My Canon S90 Love: Discovering Macro…

I recently received my new Canon S90 to replace my old Lumix FS15 compact, I’m very pleased to say that I am highly impressed with this new camera. It really is GREAT! As mentioned previously, as good as the Lumix was I became frustrated with the lack of manual control and its dreadful Low light performance.

The Canon on paper seemed to answer my prayers, I have not been dissapointed. This really is one amazing little camera, it has also introduced me the world of Macro (Check out the samples below, it has quite a close focusing distance). I bought the older model as I didn’t feel the S95 had a lot extra to offer for the extra price premium. Looking for a new compact that has adequate low light performance, manual control and is a Canon G12 packed into a pocket friendly body? My advice is to buy one of these today! (I know it sounds like I’m working for Canon)

Hope you like my attempts at Macro/Close up photography..

Mariano Vivanco: The ‘Control’ Photoshoot

Another feature on famed fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco today, this is actually a photo shoot from early 2010 that I discovered today.

The shoot was featured in Wonderland magazine, it caught my attention due to the genuine sense of ‘control’ that you feel when looking at these images. It is unclear though whether the subjects/models in the photographs are the controllers or the controlled which adds a little mystery to these beautiful captures. Vivanco always manages to amaze me with his consistently great work!

Canon S95/S90: A RAW Talent of a Small Camera?

Canon compact camera S90 S95 perfection

After sifting through some images from my Panasonic LUMIX FS15 I noticed that despite the fact that it produces some really good photo’s at base ISO, the minute I it goes too ISO 800 in low light the noise becomes OBSCENE.

Anyway….long story short. I am now looking to replace my compact camera with a new one! The LUMIX has served me well (the first camera I bought), but since using a DSLR for a while now I have become accustomed to manual controls. My current compact is completely automatic and has no ability to change settings, I have began to find this limiting when composing photographs. As any keen photographer knows, the automatic exposure setting can only be relied upon in certain circumstances.

At the moment there is huge competition between all the manufacturers in the compact market, Panasonic have the fantastic LUMIX LX-5 and Olympus have just released the equally impressive XZ-1. The only BIG problem is  both of these cameras can not fit in to my pocket which means they have limited appeal. If I want to carry around a camera to do serious photography, then I take my Nikon D90 with me. Otherwise, I want a compact I can carry in my pocket that I can easily forget about and use when I see that ‘decisive moment’ I would otherwise miss if I had no camera at all.

The Canon S95 seems to fit all my requirements…. Small (Pocketable), Adequate High ISO performance and much of the same technology that the Canon G12 has in a much SMALLER package including the ability for manual control and RAW capabilities! Seems like Canon have answered my prayers this time round. Thanks, Canon.

That is quite a thing to say as a Nikon user!! Perhaps I need to pray that Nikon can make compacts as good as their DSLRS?

Tomasito: Versatile Photography Genius

Another great find on Flickr today for you, Tomasito is a Surgeon by profession but you would not be foolish for thinking he was a photographer by profession aswell.

Some real jaw dropping photography for you here, be sure to check him out on his Flickr page. The first thing that struck me about his work is the amount of passion and enthusiasm in his imagery, he really knows how to capture the mood of a scene creating equal beauty at the same time. Moving stuff!

Mario Testino: Vogue: Unusual but Amazing ‘Wedding Belles’ Photoshoot

The time has come to feature more of legendary fashion photographer Mario Testino’s work, you can always rely on Testino to create imaginative  and artistic photography. His latest shoot ‘Wedding Belles’ is some of his most creative work yet, after looking at these photos I was left unsure of the message Testino is conveying. But with the Royal Wedding looming of Prince William and Kate Middleton, I assume this photo shoot has some connection to the big day on Friday. The meaning being…. ‘The public is watching’? Perhaps?

Whatever the intended meaning, this brilliant set of thought-provoking images are highly memorable. The use of professional models posing with members of the public in uniform is effective, I find myself looking at the photo’s wondering how Testino achieved such perfection. Enjoy..

CubaGallery: Some more Epic Photography- Landscape Portraits

I have included the amazing photography talent that goes by the name of CubaGallery before on The Photography Blogger, I felt the time had come to include more of his work. Seeing as his images really are something special!

His composition always seems to be spot on and his understanding of lighting appears to be exceptional when you see how beautifully balanced his images are. The images I’m including today would make great landscape photographs by themselves, but they are not just landscape photographs you may notice… they are candid portraits aswell.

Canon 7D DSLR: A Canon to turn a Nikon Man to Canon?

As a Nikon user, I know I’ve invested into a good system. But just sometimes… I have those nagging doubts that I might be enjoying my camera more if I was shooting Canon. As a person who is yet to use a Canon DSLR extensively I sometimes have a nagging desire to trade all my Nikon gear in to the local second-hand shop and buy a brand new shiny Canon DSLR instead (Yes, I realise how incredibly irrational this whole article sounds, but maybe some of you can relate to my madness?). I have these phases sometimes for  a few days or even a week, then usually I regain my sanity and realise I need to make the best out of the system I have already… which I am still yet to do by a long shot!

Anyway.. I am sad to say I am having one of those phases right now. For some irrational reason, I am craving to try or even consider buying a Canon 7D. Although a couple of years old now, it seems to really be a BEAST of a camera and one that 90% of owners absolutely love. Amazing reviews for this Canon gem are scattered all over the world-wide web and alot of its early critics seem to have been silenced (i.e the complaints of too many mega pixels on a smaller sensor).

I’m sure this phase will pass and I will regain my sanity (sort of sanity!) over the next few days and I will happily return to my trusty Nikon D90. But hmmmmmm… I will remain curious about this beauty of a camera that is the Canon 7D for a while yet… Anyone willing to lend me theirs for  just a day?? Just so I can try? I will give it back honest!

Jackfre2: Do I have your full attention? Stunning Portrait Beauty

Another slice of Flickr photography brilliance for you today, this time from jackfre a Belgian photographer. The thing that makes this capture more remarkable, is when you discover that this pose was not planned in any way. The model was a member of the public in a cafe, asked to pose on the spur of the moment.

The photograph has received nearly 1000 comments on Flickr and it’s not hard to see why it is making such an impact! A true masterpiece of portrait photography, Beautiful!

My ‘Flickr find of the day’ is this slice of New York Street photography, it really is an incredible capture! The lighting and composition are spot on, the person walking down the street who appears to be  a lonely figure, adds a real sense of story and mystery to the photograph. It has a real movie feel to it, true art! To see the photographers explanation behind this epic photograph simply click on the image…

Tim Walker: A Fashion Photography Haze of Beauty

Tim Walker has to be one of the best Fashion photographers around today, Walker was an assistant to Richard Avedon and has worked for top magazines such as Vogue on a regular basis. I was first introduced to his work in the V&A museum in London (and hooked I was!!). My first reaction when I got home was to Google ‘Tim Walker’, and explore more of his work.

It’s not hard to see why he has had such a formidable career, when you see his images. Dreamy, beautiful, hazy and unique are all words that can be used to describe Walker’s work.

He has carved a niche for himself by dragging you the viewer into a fantasy world with every image he creates, great thought and planning goes into every photograph. I thought I would share with you today some of Tim’s best haze filled fashion photograph beauty… Enjoy…

B.Image: Effortless Street Portrait Photography

I have been following B.Image’s work on Flickr for a while now, he specialises in posed and candid Street Portrait Photography in Singapore. To execute such photography takes courage, as it involves walking up to complete strangers and asking them to pose for photograph’s often risking rejection and worse! Taking candid street shots also takes courage, as you risk upsetting the person you are sneakily photographing as they walk down the street if they spot you.

It also takes skill to achieve strong images with such a limited time frame, you can’t exactly ask the member of the public you have picked out to stand around for hours while you get that Perfect shot! This is clearly a skill that B.Image possesses in leaps and bounds when carrying out his impromptu photo  shoots.

His posed  street portraits are deep, expressive, meaningful and his candid shots are equally as effective. His confidence shines through in his work, as his subjects look relaxed and composed. This is quite an achievement when your subjects are not professional models. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I have.. To see more of B.Images work simply click on the images below..

Mariano Vivanco for Vogue Turkey: In Imaginative Fashion Photography

As a follow on to my post regarding fashion photographer Mariano Vivanco’s stunning Emma Watson photo shoot, I came across some more beautiful work of his today featuring model Andreea Dianconu.

The thing that amazed me in this shoot for Vogue magazine in Turkey, was the fact he constructs his photography so imaginatively. The photographs do not simply portray the model, they portray Turkish culture aswell. Most importantly though, the images are interesting and it is clear the thing that sets Vivanco apart from the rest is his ability to create such unique imagery.
