A few of my recent Portrait Photography Shots

I thought I would share with you today some recent portrait shots of mine, I’m still learning the hard way and enjoying the learning process. All of my shoots have solely consisted of natural light up to now, but I have recently acquired a flash (Nikon SB700) though so I am looking forward to taking control of my lighting!

Let me know what you think, all comments are welcome…

Anna Theodora: Her latest and greatest portrait photography

Anna Theodora was one of the first photographers I featured on the blog, she is still a photographer who continues to impress and inspire me in equal measures, she seems to be showing more and more variety in her work. Check out and enjoy some of her latest photos.

Fadzly Mubin: An Incredible ‘Capture’ from Malaysia

Fadzly Mubin is a Malaysian based photographer, his work mainly focuses on the beaches of Malaysia.

Whilst browsing Flickr as I often do, I came across these stunning captures of his today. The first (top) shot is so good… it can not be described in words. Fadzly likens photography to fishing, so I feel these images perfectly sum up his work. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did..

Michelangelo di Battista: Beyonce Knowles in InStyle Magazine

This is a recent photo shoot of worldwide famous R&B/Pop Singer Beyonce Knowles by fashion photographer Michelangelo di Battista for InStyle magazine, I have made quite a few features regarding di Battista now on the blog. He is quickly becoming one of my favourite photographers in the industry, his work fills me with inspiration.

His photography is atmospheric, deep in colour and mood whilst representing his subjects/models in a very natural and relaxed fashion. His skill in perfecting dramatic lighting set ups is equally effective!

Steve McCurry: Portraits from around the world

Steve McCurry is a famed photojournalist who has travelled the world taking portraits that will go down in photographic history, his portraits have a special look and identity to them. McCurry documents the lives of his subjects, giving the viewer an insight into the lives of the people he photographs.

I first discovered McCurry when I stumbled across his most famous photograph, which is titled ‘Afghan girl’ (shown below).  I was immediately taken aback by this stunning image and I was also intrigued to see more his work, as I began to look through his portraits I realised just how talented this photographer is. Alot of the people featured are clearly facing many trials and tribulations within the environment they live, McCurry allows them to share their story with the world!

Big News: The Canon 1DX Announced Whilst Nikon/others suffer Flood tragedy

canon new full frame DSLR 1DX

It appears Canon are finally preparing themselves to release the big guns on Nikon, over the last few years Canon have been lagging behind Nikon in terms of low light performance and AF performance in the pro segment of the market. The Nikon D3S was a revelation when it was released offering staggering low light performance and a lightning fast Autofocus system making it a camera for sports photography, journalism and any other form of action packed low light photography. Canon have been slow to respond to the plaudits that were given to Nikon during that time period, the Canon 1DX appears to be Canons endeavor to match Nikon and judging by the specifications it seems to be a ‘hard hitting’ announcement which will certainly give Nikon something to think about.

To name just a few of the Canon 1DX specs, it boasts a Full frame 18 megapixel sensor, 12 Frames per second continuous shooting, 61 point Autofocus system,  ISO range from 50-51,200 and HD video. This is to name just some of the specs! This really sounds an interesting concept from Canon and it will be interesting to see how Nikon will respond with their D4 (whatever it will be called?) announcement.

Flooding shut down factory Nikon Sony

Sadly for Nikon though in other news, they have been forced to suspend their Thailand factory due to the horrific flooding that has occurred there. This news comes after sustaining damage earlier this year to there Japanese factories, this is a tremendous blow to the company as 90% of Nikon’s DSLR DX cameras are produced there. I’m imagining we will be seeing many more price rises to Nikon products over the coming months as stock levels drop. Sony have been similarly effected having to suspend production of some of their camera models, not to mention the numerous other manufacturers based in Thailand who are having to contend with the flooding in some form or another.

It appears right now that Thailand are battling with a natural disaster fairly similar to the way Japan did earlier this year, my best wishes and thoughts go out to all the people effected.

Michelangelo di Battista: Gwen Stefani.. Stunning portrait

I came across this incredible shot today by fashion/portrait photographer Michelangelo di Battista, this is from his shoot of famed singer Gwen Stefani. This shot is so incredible in every aspect, the sense of drama and atmosphere is intense creating great impact. This is without even mentioning, the stunning composition and lighting of this photograph.

The bokeh to the right of the image is smooth and beautiful allowing the sharpness of the left side of the image to stand out just that bit more.

Dr Cullen: A Creative Photographer

I have recently seen a lot of work on Flickr by a highly talented photographer who goes by the name of Dr Cullen, his work is highly inspiring as he appears to make incredible images from ‘simple’ subjects.

As we all know, it is quite a talent to spot beauty in everyday life but it takes something slightly more to create beauty from very little. As you may agree, Cullen manages to create striking photography from simple everyday subjects. I really am fascinated with the simplicity of his work and am now considering the various objects around my house as potential artistic masterpieces! Well I wouldn’t go that far…

Will Nikon’s New Mirrorless System change the game? The Nikon 1 revealed

Nikon mirrorless 1 v1 camera photo

Nikon’s product announcements this year have been a slight letdown for me, as a DSLR fan I was excited to see if Nikon would be bringing anything fresh and new to the table in this area. It would seem not!

The interesting announcement though is Nikon’s new mirrorless system, they are the first of the big two to enter the game. The big mirrorless rivals… Sony, Panasonic and Olympus have been creating huge waves in the market with their mirrorless camera offerings. Nikon clearly have felt compelled to offer their own take on the mirrorless camera design, this is a smaller camera with a smaller sensor than the competition. Canon are yet to reveal a mirrorless camera, this could potentially prove costly to Canon’s market share.. time will tell.

The Nikon idea seems to be to make a ‘pocketable’ mirrorless camera, whether it’s performance will impress and the question of whether or not the device will be as successful as the competition is still under great question. This release from Nikon is creating alot of heated debate all over the internet at the moment. Also, I couldn’t help but notice how expensive this camera will be, if it was the price of an enthusiast compact camera, it would definitely have been on my shopping list. But for the time being, I am taking a step back and considering my options..

Check out the specs over at Nikon rumours.

Another Portrait Photography Shoot By…. Me

It has been awhile since I carried out my last portrait photography shoot, so I was really pleased to organise another one. This time round the model was a girl named Lily and the town of Haslemere was the location.

The conditions were certainly very different to the previous shoot, the previous shoot was a typically overcast England day with showers. This time round, it felt like the first day of Summer all over again. (due to the fact, we have had another terrible summer in grey England!) The sunshine though sadly causes other issues in portrait photography, the main ones being harsh lighting, harsh shadows and high contrast situations. I enjoyed the challenge though of working with the conditions. Afterall, the best photographers can produce amazing photographs in every situation.

I still need to vastly improve my portrait photography skills, but I am really enjoying the learning process.

All comments are welcome…:-)Lily_Bridge_HeadshotLily_Bridge_PoseLily_Swing_Portrait_2
